Arobal - Interview (italian/english)

Adoro andare a cavallo e in snowboard.

ENGLISH

Is a 23 years old illustrator, painter and graphic artist, grown up in a little town in the middle of a polish forest. Student of philosophy, that would like to inspire people through a proliphic illustration’s gallery, with a vintage 80’s taste full of colours and details.

Where and when did you born?
I was born in Szczecin, an old city from the 11th century in the north western corner of Poland, very close to Berlin.I was born on Sunday.
My mom says it was a really sunny day.

Can you tell me something about your background?
I grew up playing in gardens, burgling into my moms closet climbing the tries and hiding myself in the swamps. It was in a small town surrounded by lakes and woods, a great place to be a kid, but when I became a teen I felt like moving to bigger and bigger cities. So I moved a little bit around Poland doing different things. I studied political science, worked for a fashion magazine and documentary film festival. Right now I started philosophy at the university.

You are living in Warsaw, how is it living there?
I live here for almost three years now, so I find myself still a newcomer.
Warsaw is much about changing. It was totally damaged during the war and wasn’t fully rebuilt.I think the city is very mysterious, chaotic and surprising.Every district seems too totally unfit the rest but somehow it all creates the atmosphere of wholesomeness.

When did you discover you had such a big talent in drawings?
I didn’t. I’ve been drawing ever since I remember. And at some point it begun to develop more into my way of living and not only fun after school. I was never trained how to draw, but I know it is much about the practice. I’m thinking about applying for the art academy next year.

Where do you get inspirations for your works?
Actually everything around is a kind of inspiration. The inspiration comes and goes, flashes and sparkles. Sometimes when I start an image it begins to change and creates itself and I’m only holding the pencils;)
I’m into movies from the 50`s and early 60`s, posters from the 30`s, all that jazz and elegance. I appreciate looking at people, the way they look at others and themselves.

What I enjoy about your drawings is that they all are sexy, happy and melancholic at the same time, how do you reach this level?
I didn’t plan that. It’s interesting that You perceive them this way. Maybe I’m just a sexy happy melancholic type of guy;)? I think that somehow I naturally search for those qualities in my every day life. Sexiness and happiness are the fun factors, they let you go creative and open yourself, and because of that openness you’re able to feel, and out of that comes the melancholy. You feel very touched with everything that happens, and that’s just beautiful.

What’s turn you on?
Boys in trouble and genuine gentlemen! But also hot weather, I don’t know why every time it gets more than 30 C I get very horny.

Nature seems to have such a huge impact on you am I right?
Yes it surely has. I think that all the moods, emotions, states of mind, stories, and wisdoms are already here, and nature is one of the keys to get to it.It is very powerful to be in contact with the elements, with earth, wind, fire and so on. I think we have lost the connection with the nature. We need to reestablish the links with it. We need to be able to discover magic that is everywhere all around.

Is it true that peeing is your favourite sport? ;)
Peeing under the trees. But at the time, during the polish winter I get to cold so I think of switching to jogging or tai chi…But seriously, I love horse riding and snowboarding. I just can’t wait to go to the mountains.

I like the fullness of colors and details you use in your drawings, it seems to me that you naturally could keep on adding things forever. When do you realize one drawing is done?
When it’s done. It’s a very hard question. Sometimes you just know that you shouldn’t even add any other scratch. And sometimes you just need to try. And when it’s done you just feel it.

Do you have any recurrent dream?
I want to be able to inspire other people.

Why do you chose Arobal in so many drawings?
It’s a way to get to know myself better I guess.

If you could choose to be a character of a fairy tale who would you like to be?
Prince Philip from the Sleeping Beauty, and the three good fairies, but deeply inside I think we all want to be the Princess.
